Anger Gets A Bad Rap

Anger is looked upon so negatively, when in reality it is not the actual emotion of anger that is bad but how we allow it to play out- affecting others & causing destruction. How can I say that anger is not negative? Well, anger is simply the shadow side of caring. If you didn’t care deeply about something, you wouldn’t get angry about it, you would be indifferent.

The problem only arises when we take that anger out on someone else or more often than not, on ourselves. But if we don’t “take it out” or experience it fully and we just bury it away because it’s “bad,” we will ultimately cause more destruction through internal turmoil & building the blockage of the emotion, thought or story. Unknowingly, that suppressed emotion only feeds the beast inside & has more potential to explode at an unexpected time with something seemingly insignificant. Or potentially worse, held internally for long enough, it can transpire physically in your body through dis-ease & illness.

I say… EXPRESS THE ANGER. Stop controlling the anger, instead be in control of the anger. To be in control is choosing your actions or choosing your way to express & feel it, whereas controlling the anger is typically ignoring it or forcing it not to exist. More than likely if you are controlling it, the point will come where it is actually out of control & unleashing in an unproductive way. Why not get ahead of it?! By being in control, you can act on it, allow it, be with it in a way that is not destructive, but actually very healing & cathartic. Through releasing this physical or physiological expression of anger, you actually open the door to the light side of the emotion… deeply caring.

How might you do this? Beat up a pillow, punching bag, scream loudly [so long as your neighbors aren’t close & would be concerned or use a pillow… sorry pillow, you are getting alot of the heat here], sprint as fast as you can down the street, pump some serious iron. All of this allows you to fully feel it, to experience the emotion as it is and in a way that helps you. You can release the pressure & be with the sensations and then you can act according to the “light side".” What you really care about, not the manifestation of it from the shadows.

Every emotions story, belief, perception has a light & a shadow. This does not equate to good & bad, just different. Both will always exist in our unconscious, however we get to choose how the shadow & light plays out in our conscious life. I believe acting from the place of light is more fulfilling & serving AND that we can only act from a place of light if we experience & sit with the shadows.
