Scars
SCARS
The scars on my body
Each one tells the story of adventure
I wear them as a badge of honor
Proud that I still play in the dirt
That I haven’t lost my inner child
That I don’t live complacent & asleep
That I’m willing to explore what’s possible
That beauty exists in the imperfections
But there are scars you can’t see
And the stories that go with them are seldom told
Not because I’m ashamed or embarrassed
Not because I’m shutting out the past
Not because the pain is intolerable
But because they no longer control me
They are no longer me
Just things that happened
Stories, and simply that
Healed reminders
And no longer wounds
Just... scars
