#CRVLIFE: The Inspiration

A few years ago, I was mapping out a plan to sell my Honda CRV, buy an old Tacoma that I could build out & make my new home. I had visions of a platform to sleep on, a punched out hard top for extra storage space, four wheel drive to access the backcountry roads, and a simple, no frills lifestyle while continuing to work in the Front Range. The desire came from a combination of wanting to save boatloads of money to buy a house, to be mobile & explore new places when not working, and to continue minimizing my accumulation of things.

The universe had other plans for me when I broke my back 3 months before my lease was up & my intended date to execute #tacolife. I quickly realized living out of the back of a truck was probably not the best for physical recovery and the new financial undertaking of hospital bills made buying a truck feel unrealistic. Although, tacolife was no longer possible, the universe had better plans for me. I moved into an awesome house in Louisville, living with even more than awesome people, allowing me to fully immerse myself in a community I was already fond of.

18 months later as I was mapping out some summer outdoor objectives, I realized I would need a week off here, 10 days there, 8 days yonder, etc, etc. As I started to “convince” a friend to quit his job and do all the exploring he had been pondering, it was apparent that I was also subtly convincing myself, which ultimately wasn’t that hard- my meditation and yoga nidra practice had become consistent a few months prior and many self limiting beliefs were already melting away, so the “convincing” was really just figuring out the timing to pull the trigger.

Fully committed to #CRVlife, I began my favorite part: planning & logistics. I’ll spare you the details [& will have a separate post about the build-out of my CRV.] This process was also the beginning of another more internal process of being able to embrace the “no-plan plan.” As much as I love change, I’ve always had a plan through these changes, never fully submitting to the unknown. With a few objectives & projects I want to work on while on the road, I am taking this opportunity to dive head first into the unknown and let the current of the universe take me where it takes me for the next indefinite number of months.
